I have had quite an itch to get into the back country all winter. So, i finally got a 36 hour break and headed up to the mountains early one recent Saturday morning for an over night backpack trip up to Island Lake in the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness located in the central Sierra Nevada. I started at the Cortright Lake trail head and hiked 7.5 miles to my destination. All alone at 10,000 feet! there was not a cloud in the sky (lousy for photos) but he mountains behind Island Lake (the Three Sisters) topping out at 10,600 feet were still covered with patchy snow. In the still before sunset and the following morning i was able to capture a few images to remember the trip by.
