“UP ALL NIGHT” THE NIGHT SKY FROM THE ALABAMA HILLS
Sleepless nights a necessary part of astophotography ?
The Alabama Hills are a range of rock formations just west of Lone Pine California along the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Just off of Whitney Portal Road which leads to the trail to Mt Whitney there is a road , Movie Road, that turns north through the many rock formations. The area has been the site of many movie and TV Show sets through the years chronicled in the Movie Museum in Town. The rock formations make wonderful foregrounds to incorporate into photographys and adding the night sky in this relatively dark sky region just adds another dimension.

Boot Arch
Along Movie Road

Throughout the area are many arches, Some small and some large enought to climb through. They make great and interesting elements in the foreground to incorporate into the night sky.
Astro-Landscape photography required capture planning including the time of the day. the moon phase in addition to the composition in order to capture the necessary information for the final product. Just as the film photographer must make artistic decisions in the dark room a digital photographyer much make adjustments and decisions in the digital darkroom. Here the final product for your enjoyment is ment to be a piece of art (The Developed Raw Image) – not a journallistic representation of what may be seen by the naked eye ( the raw capture ).
